Morning workshops

10 – 10.45am

Kemetic Yoga – with Nialah

Nailah is a yoga and tai chi instructor practicing a unique style of yoga.

Kemetic Yoga is an ancient form of yoga practice that puts great emphasis on ‘rule of four breathing’ a technique that promotes control of the breath at a cellular level, meditation, geometric progression (learning the poses  little by little working with the breath and precise alignment) along with health and vitality via the consumption of whole and healthy foods.

11 – 12pm

Up-cycling (to make musical instruments) Workshop – with Saidi Kanda

Making instruments from recycled materials with World class Tanzanian percussionist Saidi Kanda . Materials provided for the workshop, just come with an open mind and learn creative ways to turn throw-aways into musical, beautifully sounding treasures.

Afternoon workshops

All afternoon workshops will use instruments made from recycled materials in the morning session, as well as percussion.

1-2pm

Numbi song and dance with Fatimina Hilowleh

Numbi song and dance Workshop with Fatimina Hilowleh, one of the best Somali female musicians a singer, songwriter and dancer. She is from well-known family of artists and great musicians.

2-3pm

Numbi song and dance workshop with Nelson Neves. Nelson Neves is a Mozambican dancer and choreographer. Using movements from African dance, together with percussion, this workshop will explore and devise ways of using them in performance.

3-4pm

Numbi song and dance workshop Finale workshop

Both artists from the earlier afternoon workshops, Nelson and Fatimina, together with a percussionist, will come together to deliver this finale song and dance workshop.
