Lingua Franca Ensemble visit the UK for the second time, now with their long-awaited debut CD “EPHEMERA”.

The ensemble creates and performs music influenced by the modal music cultures of the Eastern Mediterranean and beyond. Lingua Franca Ensemble have recently released their debut album EPHEMERA which comprises their own compositions and features guest artists Mr Kudsi Erguner (UNESCO Artist for Peace) and Mr Niti Ranjan Biswas.

Lingua Franca – once the language of commerce and diplomacy in the Mediterranean, a blend of Portuguese, Arabic, French, Italian, Turkish, Greek and Spanish cultural elements –  inspires the sentimental musical wandering of the quartet. A journey during which vibrant modal music traditions mingle with Western music elements and compose a colourful palette of sounds using music as their common language.

With their charismatic playing, their fresh and truthful approach to tradition and their open engagement to new music, the quartet has been successful in reaching a wide and varied audience of listeners.

The ensemble has appeared in numerous festivals and venues showcasing Roots and World music performances such as the St Ethelburgas Centre (London), Ossietzky University (Oldenburg), Gasteig Concert Hall (Munich), Gruener Salon (Berlin), Houdetsi World Music Festival (Crete) and Rialto World Music Festival (Limassol), among others.
