About

The Old Church is an arts and performance space in the heart of Stoke Newington, and the only surviving Elizabethan church in London, dating back to 1563. We are committed to inspiring arts and inspiring community, a mission in keeping with the rich history of this ancient building.

We host a wide variety of music, art, dance, and performance events. Once a month we host OPEN:Art, a free art session for all ages and abilities. In collaboration with local artists and groups, we also develop projects to bring diverse local communities together to create art. The first of these was BREATHE: a celebration of air in 2016.

The Old Church is a not-for-profit company, run by a part-time management team and governed by a Board of Trustees. Our events are managed by teams of volunteers.

To raise funds for our work, The Old Church is available for hire for wedding receptions, parties, corporate functions, rehearsals, recordings, filming and photography.

The building remains a consecrated church, belonging to the Parish of St Mary’s who have a newer, larger church across the road. Services take place at The Old Church at 08.15 (matins) and 09.30 (all ages) every Sunday, and 18.30 (evensong) on the first Sunday of the month.
